LIke most Mac users I know, I prefer to leave applications running so that I can get back to them quickly, and just close windows when I'm done with them.

You need to quit the applications instead of just closing the app's open windows.Īll open apps when shutting down will reopen, Resume, on a restart, and fresh windows will be opened when this occurs.

Nov 29, AM in response to ragnu In response to ragnu. I hope Apple will fix this some day, so that Startup Resume will really give me back my computer in the state I left it at shutdown. Apps that were windowless aren't windowless on startup, and 3 This behavior leads to a lot of unwanted desktop clutter. I think this is undesirable for at least three reasons: 1 When I shut down, I have a checked box that says 'reopen windows when logging back in', so I expect lion only to reopen windows that were there, 2 The blurb on Lion on Apple's website says 'With Resume, you can restart your Mac and return to what you were doing - with all your apps in the places where you left them'. What I object to is getting windows that weren't there in the first place. If I merely got back windows that were open on shutdown, that wouldn't bother me. But what happens when you log out and back in is something completely different. That's fine with me, so I'll leave that checked.
